H 31 (Lieutenant Frank Bridger Gibbs) sailed from Falmouth on the 19th Dec 1941 for a patrol in the Bay of Biscay, and was not seen or heard from after the release by her escort. She was reported overdue on 26 Dec 1941, the cause of her loss was possibly a German minefield, drifting British mines or accidental. She was lost with all 33 crew.
The date of her loss given is an approximate one. On 24 Dec 1941 she failed to show up at the rendez-vous position for onward passage under escort towards Falmouth. She was declared overdue from patrol on 26 Dec 1941.
