H.M.S. Broke (Lieutenant Commander Arthur Frank Capel Layard) was damaged by gunfire from Vichy-French shore batteries off Algiers, Algeria during the Operation Torch in North Africa. H.M.S. Broke was later scuttled about 115 nautical miles west of Algiers.
